David M. Boyer, pharmacist and University of Toledo graduate, will speak at the May 2008 College of Pharmacy Commencement. With 35 years of service in pharmacy, Boyer has earned the respect of his peers and the accolades of the pharmacy community.
Since his graduation from The University of Toledo in 1973, Boyer has worked as a staff pharmacist, a hospital director of pharmacy and a university instructor. Chemical dependency, including smoking cessation, has been a cornerstone of Boyer’s research, and he has received numerous awards and appointments in recognition of his work. He is the sitting president of the Ohio Pharmacists Association and has served on the Board of Trustees for Ohio Pharmacists Association, Ohio Pharmacists Foundation, Pharmacists Rehabilitation Organization and Summit Pharmacists Association. Boyer was the Pharmacist Adviser for the Akron Area Society of Pharmacy Technicians, and has served as president of the Akron Area Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists (OSHP) and Ohio Pharmacists Association. He is also a member of the House of Delegates for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Among Mr. Boyer’s honors is the Pharmacists Rehabilitation Organization Service Award, which he received in 2000. In 2001, he was honored with the Norman F. Billups Distinguished Alumni Service Award. OSHP’s Novartis Humanitarian of the Year Award and Walter M. Frazier Award were bestowed upon him in 2002 and 2003, respectively. Boyer’s contributions to pharmacy continue through his current work as a Summa Health System pharmacist.
