PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency
(ASHP-accredited)

The University of Toledo has a rigorous but flexible general pharmacy practice residency with an emphasis on acute care. The goal of the residency program is to better enable residency graduates to provide quality, patient-focused care with sound clinical pharmacy skills. The strong skill set of these graduates will allow them to become pharmacy practice leaders. Program content will focus on clinical pharmacy practice, didactic teaching, and research with college faculty. Clinical pharmacy rotations will include internal medicine, cardiology, infectious diseases, critical care, and nephrology among other experiences. Residents will participate in rounds, drug therapy management, and providing drug information to the health care team, patient, and the patient's family members. within the institution, residents will also participate in teaching, staff development, DUE projects, protocol/pathway development, and other departmental/ institutional projects. PGY2 Critical Care and Infectious Diseases Residency
(ASHP-accredited)

The critical care specialty residency will provide a comprehensive experience in the management of critically ill patients, with an additional emphasis on infectious disease pharmacotherapy. The resident will be able to tailor a training program to fit his/her individual needs, rounding out the core rotations of medical critical care, surgical critical care, infectious diseases, and cardiology with other areas of study, which may include: emergency medicine, nutrition, research, transplant, clinical microbiology, and others. Research is encouraged of the resident, and opportunities include basic and applied microbiology and infectious diseases, basic and applied aspects of critical illness, animal modeling, clinical pharmacokinetics, basic and applied pharmacodynamics, and multi-center clinical trials, among others. The state-of-the-art laboratory and research facilities at The University of Toledo are among the finest in the region. Residents will also participate in teaching, staff development, DUE projects, protocol/pathway development, and other departmental and institutional projects.
