Symposium Goal

The goal of this symposium is to provide
pharmacists current and evidence-based
information on controversial topics in
critical care pharmacotherapy


Symposium Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program,
participants should be able to:


  • Outline a treatment strategy for correction of hyponatremia, and discuss patient-specific situations that dictate treatment
  • Assess mechanisms for achieving tight glycemic control in critical illness
  • Define "smart pump technology" and list several situations in which it could be used in the healthcare setting
  • Discuss the various therapeutic options for MRSA treatment, comparing the agents and describing the advantages and disadvantages of each
  • Identify decision points for Factor VII use in bleeding emergencies associated with trauma or surgery
  • Discuss potential limitations associated with the use of benzodiazepines for continuous ICU sedation
